Title: Setting the Foundation: An Introduction to Education Funding in NH
Location: 25 Triangle Park Drive, Concord NH 03301
Description: This past legislative session, how the state of New Hampshire funds public schools continued to be a vigorous public policy issue.  There were over 20 proposed education funding bills with a wide range of public testimony from around the state and different approaches to the issue from the House, Senate, and the Governor's Office. There was also a ruling on the ConVal lawsuit, and much related public discussion.  In this engaging session, NHSBA and ReachingHigher NH will provide background and insight into the following questions:
  • What is the funding formula that New Hampshire uses to calculate state aid? Does everyone get the same amount?
  • How do districts raise revenue for public schools, and how does that vary across the state?
  • What are stabilization grants and why do I keep hearing about them?
  • How have enrollment, local property taxes, and spend per student changed over the last 10 years?
  • How does New Hampshire compare with other states when it comes to raising and spending money for our public schools?
Cost: Free
