New Minimum Standards Adopted

Today, the State Board of Education unanimously adopted the New Minimum Standards. This was the culmination of more than two years of meetings, review, and hearings. You can access the new Standards by utilizing the following link to the New Hampshire Department of Education Website. Many of the new standards will be effective July 1, 2005, with a phase-in for others at a later date. The "high profile" parts of the Standards relate to high school graduation requirements, class size recommendations, and increased flexibility in setting school calendars/schedules, to name but several. Many of the new Standards will require local school boards to adopt new school board policies, or revise existing ones. Dr. Ted Comstock, NHSBA Executive Director, stated "The Association is working pro-actively to ensure that our member school boards have the information and sample policies that they will need to address the new Standards. Our policy service will provide what our members need to ensure that the new Standards will be met, in a realistic and managable manner." For more information about the new Standards, please contact the NHSBA Office at 228-2061. Click here for the link to the new minimum standards.
