The New Hampshire School Boards Association Legislative Overview

The New Hampshire School Boards Association is a not-for-profit Association of local school boards across the state. NHSBA promotes excellence in our locally governed public schools by representing the school board perspective before the legislature and state/federal governmental agencies.

NHSBA is a strong advocate of locally elected school boards as the ultimate expression of grassroots democracy. Local school boards-acting on behalf of, and in close concert with, their residents-envision the future of education in each community, establishing a structure and environment to allow all students to reach their maximum potential. School boards serve as the key community advocate for all children and their public schools.

Founded in 1946, NHSBA represents almost 1,000 locally elected school board members. These local officials govern 176 local school districts serving the state's more than 200,000 public school students.

NHSBA policy is determined by resolutions adopted at an annual Delegate Assembly of member school boards. The 21-member Board of Directors translates this policy into action. Programs and services are administered by Dr. Theodore Comstock, Executive Director, with Dean Michener serving as Director of Governmental Affairs.
